California Gurls

Rugby by Ralph Lauren floral bustier and khaki shorts, fedora borrowed from my sister, J. Crew espadrille sandals, photos by Elizabeth

If you're reading this post, that means I'm on the plane to California! I'm probably dead tired at the moment from waking up at 5:45am and may or may not be sleeping (uncomfortably) on the plane. One thing I will definitely not be doing is eating airplane food. Ew. But I shouldn't be complaining cause I know I'm going to have an amazing time in Cali! I'm super excited to relax on the beach and hopefully spot some celebrities in Hollywood. Have you been to California? Is there a great vintage shop or delicious restaurant I should know about?

My playlist for the plane:

  1. Lindsay! :) Yay, you're visiting California! Being an LA native, I definetly reccomend the shopping here... way better than NYC shopping my opinion! Try Melrose Ave for some GREAT vintage shops (love it there so much, great unique finds & some potential star-sighting...!), or even Santa Monica Third Street! For delicious pizza + homemade baked mac & cheese, I reccomend Pitfire Pizza Company, nom nom! Lovely outfit as well, adore your hat! Hope you have a fantastic time in CA... soak up some sun! ^_^

PS: I'm not a fan of airplane food either... hehe!

  2. Vintage Shop = Jet Rag in West Hollywood. They have (or used to have) the $1 sale on Sunday morning where everything on the front store parking lot is a dollar.

Restaurants = In-N-Out as mentioned over Twitter lol. Diddy Riese ice cream sandwiches in Westwood by UCLA, Javier's in Laguna Beach, Honda Ya Izakaya and Daikokuya ramen in downtown LA, Hae Jang Chon Korean bbq in LA.

  13. Hello! California resident here and I'd definitely recommend the following places:

SHOPPING - Planet Blue, Malibu (there's also one in Santa Monica both are great)
    - The Way We Wore, LaBrea Ave. (amazing vintage shop)
    - Polka Dots and Moonbeams, 3rd St. (nice blend of vintage and new)
    - Catwalk, Fairfax Ave. (designer vintage, wonderfully knowledgable owner)

FOOD - Loteria, Hollywood Blvd. (delicious Mexican food)
    - The Spanish Kitchen, LaCienega ($2 Taco Tuesdays!)
    - Nobu, LaCienega (expensive but insanely good sushi)
    - The Rainbow/Viper Room/Whiskey-A-Go-Go (Sunset Strip - great for rock shows and The Rainbow for good food. Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio had their first date in booth 65!)

    Have fun on your trip!

i really hope you see and respond to this because i have been searching your twitter, tumbler and blog for where you might mention this but haven't had any luck... what camera do you use? i am dying to get an slr camera and you take beautiful pictures so i was wondering what camera you used? you mention your love for photography so i was also wondering if you could recommend some to me? Do you know of any that take photos as well as video? and which brand do you think is easier to use, nikon or canon? i hope you can respond to all of my questions! by the way, beautiful outfit! definitely something i would wear :)

Hi! I use the Canon EOS Rebel XS for all my photos and I usually use it with a 50mm fixed lens instead of the kit lens it comes with. This camera is very small and compacts and relatively inexpensive compared to other SLRs. I would recommend it as a firs SLR. If you're looking for something with more advanced that can also take video, then I would check out the Canon 7D. It's more expensive but has a larger LCD monitor, can take video, and is designed to fit comfortably in one's hand. The EOS and Mark series by Canon are all great. I've used both nikon and canon, but I like canon better because they tend to be lighter and have dots that light up when the image is in focus so I don't have blurry pictures as often. That said, nikons are comfortable to hold and the settings are a little bit easier to understand for first time users. If you can go to a camera store like B&H they will let you compare both cameras. I think it's just a matter of personal preference. Good luck with your purchase! and thank you :)
